- Full-time
- Division of Regulatory Genomics and Cancer Evolution
At the German Cancer Research Center, our mission is to advance research aimed at eradicating cancer. We delve into the processes of cancer development, identify risk factors, and explore innovative strategies for cancer prevention. Our goal is to enhance diagnostic precision and improve treatment outcomes for cancer patients. Every role contributes to this vital mission, making our work both meaningful and engaging.
The Division of Regulatory Genomics and Cancer Evolution is in search of a
LAB PHILOSOPHY. The Odom laboratory employs state-of-the-art experimental genomics techniques, including spatial transcriptomics, nanopore sequencing, and multi-omics approaches, to investigate mutagenesis, cancer initiation, and progression. We adopt a collaborative and integrative methodology, partnering closely with computational research teams.
Your ResponsibilitiesPROJECT ON OFFER. We are looking for a candidate to lead a team of skilled technicians in a comprehensive analysis of how sex influences mutagenesis and the onset of cancer. This initiative builds on our innovative use of chemical carcinogens to study cancer initiation in model organisms. Previous work has uncovered a novel cancer formation mechanism and examined the dynamics of repair and damage at a single-strand level. This project will involve creating and analyzing cancer genomes from female subjects and utilizing a core genotype model to differentiate the effects of hormones and sex chromosomes. By employing advanced spatial mapping of single-cell transcriptomes, we will investigate how the sex-specific microenvironment impacts tumor development.
DUTIES. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills to coordinate laboratory technicians and computational collaborators, potentially including clinical partners, into a cohesive research team. Responsibilities will encompass project management, method development and refinement, as well as the collection and analysis of extensive genomic datasets. The training provided in this multidisciplinary environment is designed to foster scientific independence, leadership capabilities, and professional growth.
Your ProfileDESIRED CANDIDATE. We seek a postdoctoral research fellow with a strong experimental focus and extensive expertise in molecular biology and genomics. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, ambitious, detail-oriented, scientifically inquisitive, and driven by curiosity. Experience in single-cell methodologies, transcriptional regulation, cancer genomics, epigenetics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, or comparative genomics is preferred; we also welcome applications from accomplished graduate students looking to transition into this research area.
We Offer Excellent working conditions: access to cutting-edge equipment and opportunities for high-level international networking Competitive remuneration in accordance with TV-L, including a pension plan and capital-forming benefits 30 days of annual leave Flexible working hours Options for part-time employment Family-friendly workplace environment Sustainable commuting options: subsidized public transport tickets Comprehensive health management program focusing on overall well-being Opportunities for personal development: access to the DKFZ International Postdoc Program and DKFZ Career Service with tailored offerings for skill enhancement
