Lead Database Engineer

Position Overview:

As a Senior Database Administrator, you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing our database systems, specifically focusing on Postgres and MySQL within the Google Cloud Platform environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Postgres and MySQL databases hosted on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Evaluate database performance and enhance query efficiency through optimization techniques.
  • Guarantee data integrity and adherence to industry security standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve database-related issues while conducting thorough root cause analyses.
  • Work collaboratively with development teams to create and implement effective database schemas.
  • Establish and uphold comprehensive database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Keep abreast of emerging database technologies and industry best practices.
  • Provide critical on-call support for urgent database matters as required.

Candidate Profile:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in database administration, particularly with Postgres and MySQL.
  • Flexibility to work in a hybrid model, with the possibility of onsite presence.
  • Proven experience in deploying, managing, and scaling Postgres and MySQL databases using Google Cloud SQL.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services, including Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and Cloud IAM.
  • Proficient in scripting languages such as Python or JavaScript for automating database tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to effectively troubleshoot complex database challenges.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with developers and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously while also being a supportive team member.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automation and orchestration tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
  • Familiarity with NoSQL databases like ScyllaDB, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
  • Knowledge of migration tools such as Flyway.
  • Experience with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to Databricks.
