Plant Genetics Postdoctoral Fellow

Position Overview:
The Division of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our research team. This role focuses on exploring genomic selection methodologies within the field of rice breeding, offering a unique opportunity to engage with advanced plant breeding techniques in a prominent public breeding program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct marker-assisted backcrossing to efficiently integrate disease resistance traits into elite breeding lines.
- Implement and assess genomic selection strategies within the rice breeding initiative.
- Curate and manage breeding trial data, maintaining a comprehensive breeding database to enhance genomic selection processes.
- Collaborate with scientists at the USDA-ARS Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center to facilitate joint research efforts.
- Contribute to the preparation and submission of research findings to peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience in plant breeding, genetics, plant pathology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in collecting and analyzing plant phenotype data.
- Familiarity with genomic selection principles and their applications.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis of multi-environment trials.
- Experience utilizing molecular markers for marker-assisted selection.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- A demonstrated history of submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in the R programming language.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis.
