Position Overview:
The Division of Agriculture of the University of Arkansas is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our research team focused on genomic selection methodologies in rice breeding. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advanced plant breeding techniques within a prominent public breeding program, utilizing extensive multi-year and multi-location breeding datasets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct marker-assisted backcrossing to efficiently integrate disease resistance traits into elite breeding lines.
- Implement and assess genomic selection strategies within the rice breeding program.
- Curate and manage rice breeding trial data, ensuring effective genomic selection processes.
- Collaborate with scientists at the USDA-ARS Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center to enhance research efforts.
- Participate in the preparation and submission of research findings to peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in plant breeding, plant genetics, plant pathology, or a related discipline. Proven experience in collecting and analyzing plant phenotype data, familiarity with genomic selection principles, and expertise in statistical analysis of multi-environment trials. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. A record of submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals is essential.
Preferred Qualifications: Proficiency in the R programming language and experience with bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis.
Salary Information: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
