Position Overview:
The Division of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to contribute to our research initiatives focused on genomic selection methodologies in rice breeding. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with advanced plant breeding techniques within a prominent public breeding program, utilizing extensive multi-year and multi-location breeding datasets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct marker-assisted backcrossing to effectively integrate disease resistance traits into elite breeding lines.
- Implement and assess genomic selection strategies within the rice breeding framework.
- Curate and manage rice breeding trial data, ensuring the efficiency of genomic selection processes.
- Collaborate with scientists at the USDA-ARS Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center to enhance research efforts.
- Participate in the preparation and submission of research findings to peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience in plant breeding, plant genetics, plant pathology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in collecting and analyzing plant phenotype data.
- Familiarity with genomic selection principles and applications.
- Expertise in statistical analysis of multi-environment trials.
- Proficient in using molecular markers for marker-assisted selection.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- A proven track record of submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in the R programming language.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis.
