Position Overview:
The Division of Agriculture at the University of Arkansas is on the lookout for a dedicated and skilled individual to join our research team focused on genomic selection methodologies in rice breeding. This role presents a unique opportunity to engage with advanced plant breeding techniques within a prominent public breeding initiative, utilizing extensive multi-year and multi-location breeding datasets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct marker-assisted backcrossing to efficiently integrate disease resistance traits into elite breeding lines.
- Implement and assess genomic selection strategies within the rice breeding framework.
- Manage and curate rice breeding trial data, maintaining a comprehensive breeding database to support effective genomic selection.
- Contribute to the drafting and submission of research findings to reputable peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience in plant breeding, plant genetics, plant pathology, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in collecting and analyzing plant phenotype data.
- Familiarity with genomic selection principles and their applications.
- Expertise in statistical analysis of multi-environment trials.
- Proficient in using molecular markers for marker-assisted selection.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A proven track record of submitting manuscripts to peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency in the R programming language.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools for genomic analysis.
