Key Responsibilities

The Ground Controller will play a pivotal role in managing ground operations for the International Space Station (ISS), serving as the primary contact for all ground-related matters concerning the Columbus Flight Control Team and its partners.

  • Oversee Ground Segment Operations for:
    • Columbus and ISS increment operations
    • Docking, undocking, and video support
    • Management of communication services and lines
    • Operation of data, voice, video, and related subsystems
    • Coordination of Columbus operations with the Flight Control Team and external partners
    • Conduct real-time ground segment operations in accordance with established timelines and procedures
    • Provide 24/7 operational support through shift work
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
  • Assist all ESA Ground Segment users
  • Diagnose and resolve real-time Ground Segment issues and anomalies
  • Manage online trouble ticket processing
Reporting and Engineering
  • Contribute to mission and increment reporting documentation
  • Support the definition and implementation of Ground Segment requirements
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions on Ground Segment operations
  • Develop and validate new operational procedures
  • Coordinate interface changes and conduct interface tests
  • Prepare and document Test Readiness Reviews
Candidate Profile
  • University degree in Engineering or relevant experience in ground segment operations
  • System-oriented mindset
  • Ability to collaborate within an international and interdisciplinary team
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in German is advantageous
  • Experience in ground operations is a plus
