The BodyTEC Center bears end-to-end responsibility for the production of body parts such as side panels, doors, hoods, fenders, etc. This includes all process steps from the development of forming tools through to production in the press shop. In this environment, the Toolmaking Technology Development team deals with cross-departmental cross-cutting issues.

The laser-based direct energy deposition (L-DED) process has already established itself as a flexible additive manufacturing process for shape changes and repairs in the manufacture of forming tools for the production of vehicle body sheet metal parts. The hybrid additive manufacturing of complete tool components using L-DED is being investigated as a new approach. The aim of this master's thesis is to further develop this innovative manufacturing technology with regard to laser power control in the process, thereby generating new potential applications.

These are some of the challenges you will face:

Literature research to familiarize yourself with the topic Further development of the system technology and optimization of the welding parameters Planning and carrying out tests to implement automatic control of the laser power in the welding process Metallurgical preparation and investigation using cross-sections and material testing methods Hybrid additive design of a cutting blade Documentation and presentation of the results

The final topic will be determined in consultation with the university, you and us.

Qualifikationen Master's degree in mechanical engineering, production and manufacturing technology, materials engineering, materials science or a comparable course of study Proficient in written and spoken German and English (at least C1) Confident handling of MS Office, CAD/CAM experience desirable Analytical and conceptual way of thinking, ability to work in a team, structured way of working, communication skills Previous knowledge and experience in the field of 3D printing and/or welding technology an advantage Previous knowledge of materials technology, control engineering and statistical design of experiments (DoE) an advantage
