Internship in Additive Manufacturing with Laser Metal Deposition

Position Overview:
The BodyTEC Center is responsible for the comprehensive production of various body components, including side panels, doors, hoods, and fenders. This role encompasses all stages from the design of forming tools to the manufacturing process in the press shop. Within the Toolmaking Technology Development department, innovative topics such as metallic 3D printing for hybrid additive manufacturing of tool segments are explored.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engagement in additive manufacturing projects utilizing laser metal deposition techniques.
  • Conducting experiments independently in a hands-on environment, including the documentation and analysis of measurement data.
  • Performing simulations and calculations, enhancing existing methodologies through simulative modeling, and applying findings to specific components.
  • Preparing samples in the materials technology laboratory, followed by metallographic analysis and evaluation.
  • Collaborating with doctoral candidates and team members to prepare written reports and document results through graphics and presentations.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in mechanical engineering, production technology, materials science, or a related field.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken German and English.
  • Proficient in MS Office; experience with CAD/CAM is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills, with a collaborative and structured approach to work.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and materials technology is beneficial but not mandatory.
