Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
The duties are defined by the project “L2: Quantifying Dynamical Regimes in the Ocean and the Atmosphere” which contributes to the German Science Foundation Transregional Collaborative Research Centre 181 "Energy Transfers in the Atmosphere and the Ocean” (DFG CRC 181, ). The postdoctoral position is located in the Atmospheric Dynamics and Predictability group, . The successful candidate will closely work with the senior group members and collaborators in the project partner institutes.
The focus of the postdoctoral project is on non-linear flow decomposition and on non-hydrostatic effects in high-resolution weather and climate models. Responsibilities include 1) analysis of atmospheric energy budget in the reanalysis data and models, 2) quantification of non-hydrostatic effects in km-scale models, and 3) dissemination of the results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences.
Your profile
A university degree in a relevant field, plus doctorate.
A PhD degree in physical sciences is required, with preference for atmospheric sciences or meteorology. Other requirements include experience in carrying out and analyzing experiments with atmospheric or Earth system models of different complexity, advanced scientific programming skills, familiarity with running and coding numerical models of geophysical flows, capacity for teamwork, writing skills and publication record.
