Research Associate for Quantifying Dynamical Regimes
About the Position:We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Earth System Sciences, Meteorological Institute. The successful candidate will work on the project "Quantifying Dynamical Regimes in the Ocean and the Atmosphere" as part of the German Science Foundation Transregional Collaborative Research Centre 181 "Energy Transfers in the Atmosphere and the Ocean".
Responsibilities:- Conduct research on non-linear flow decomposition and non-hydrostatic effects in high-resolution weather and climate models.
- Analysis of atmospheric energy budget in reanalysis data and models.
- Quantification of non-hydrostatic effects in km-scale models.
- Dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at conferences.
- PhD degree in physical sciences, with preference for atmospheric sciences or meteorology.
- Experience in carrying out and analyzing experiments with atmospheric or Earth system models of different complexity.
- Advanced scientific programming skills.
- Familiarity with running and coding numerical models of geophysical flows.
- Capacity for teamwork, writing skills, and publication record.
