Research Associate Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at the University of Hamburg. The successful candidate will be part of the theoretical oceanography group and work under the supervision of Dr. Friederike Pollmann and Prof. Dr. Carsten Eden.

Project Overview

The TRR 181 is a collaborative research center funded by the German Research Foundation that aims to better understand and consistently represent energy transfers between different dynamical regimes in mathematical and numerical models. The subproject W4 investigates energetically consistent parameterizations of wave-induced turbulent mixing in ocean general circulation models.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a computationally cheap simplified IDEMIX model to increase its usability and evaluating the different IDEMIX versions with respect to the characteristics of the modelled wave field, the associated computational costs, and the agreement with global scale observations.

Requirements

A university degree in a relevant field and genuine interest in independent research in the fields of oceanography and numerical modeling are required. Excellent English skills and the ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team are also essential.

We Offer

  • Reliable remuneration based on wage agreements
  • Continuing education opportunities
  • University pensions
  • Attractive location
  • Flexible working hours
  • Work-life balance opportunities
  • Health management
