Job Title: Research Associate for Ocean Parameterization

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at Universität Hamburg. The successful candidate will work on the project "W4 Gravity wave parameterization for the ocean" as part of the collaborative research center TRR 181 Energy transfers in atmosphere and ocean.

About the Project

The TRR 181 is a DFG-funded collaborative research center that aims to better understand and consistently represent energy transfers between different dynamical regimes in mathematical and numerical models. The subproject W4 investigates energetically consistent parameterizations of wave-induced turbulent mixing in ocean general circulation models, notably the IDEMIX concept.

Responsibilities
  • Develop a computationally cheap simplified IDEMIX model to increase its usability
  • Evaluate the different IDEMIX versions with respect to the characteristics of the modelled wave field, the associated computational costs, and the agreement with global scale observations
Requirements
  • University degree in a relevant field
  • Genuine interest in independent research in the fields of oceanography and numerical modeling, in data analysis, and in the presentation and publication of scientific results
  • Excellent English skills and ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team
