Characterization of KTL materials with regard to corrosion formation on component edges
In today's vehicle development process, the protection of the vehicle with regard to corrosion is primarily based on technical testing and the expertise of experienced employees. In the Surface & Corrosion Protection Complete Vehicle department, a numerical simulation of the corrosion process is therefore being developed as part of the digitalization process.
The simulation is intended to show the influence of corrosion on components and vehicles quickly, efficiently and in correlation with field results using numerical methods on the computer.
Due to their design, component edges are susceptible to corrosion. This is due to physical and production-related phenomena such as a reduced paint layer thickness due to edge alignment and the interruption of the galvanizing on the end faces. The aim of the work is to investigate the corrosion protection effect of various cathodic dip coatings (CDC) with different coating thicknesses on component edges. The components are tested in our in-house corrosion test.
You will face these challenges:
Familiarization with the topic and the existing evaluation methods Preparation of corrosion samples, pre-treatment and coating of samples in the laboratory and in the series production process Carrying out and supervising the corrosion tests Evaluation and documentation of the test results Qualifikationen Degree in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, mechanical engineering, surface technology or similar. Laboratory experience desirable Confident handling of MS-Office, Ideally knowledge of Matlab Independent and structured way of working Strong goal and result orientation Reliability and enjoyment of experimental workAdditional information:
