Field Engineer

The Second Foundation Group is an international energy trading company with around 350 employees based in Prague (Czech Republic), Zug (Switzerland), Mainz and Berlin (Germany), Charlotte (USA), and Tokyo (Japan). We specialize in the physical trading of electricity across 21 markets in Europe, North America, and Asia.

We focus on integrating and optimally marketing renewable energies and battery storage within the electricity market. Since 2023, the Second Foundation Group has been investing in its assets, particularly battery storage systems. With a portfolio of 15 battery storage projects with a capacity of over 500 MW, our next goal is to establish ourselves as a leading owner and operator of battery storage systems in Germany. Innovative and efficient storage solutions pave the way for deeper integration of renewable energy sources.

Als a Senior Field Engineer in Battery Storage System, you will play a key role in the execution and commissioning of Second Foundation Group's growing battery storage portfolio. You'll collaborate closely with our internal teams as well as with project developers, suppliers, and service partners to shape innovative solutions and advance impactful, sustainable energy projects.

What would you work on?

• Take overall responsibility for leading and coordinating the commissioning of all battery storage systems.
• Plan and oversee commissioning processes, including schedules and resource planning.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards during on-site commissioning phases.
• Conduct functional tests and system acceptances for large-scale EPC projects.
• Train and supervise commissioning teams as well as on-site operators.
• Manage all commissioning documentation, including as-built documentation and detailed site reports.
• Collaborate with departments such as Engineering, Production, and Service to continuously improve system performance.
• Act as the main communication interface for all contractors and companies on-site.
• Oversee all certifications and final tests (e.g. SAT) and ensure proper documentation throughout the commissioning phase.
• Coordinate the completion of all remaining punch items across project sites.
• Escalate any critical or unresolved issues to the department head or executive management without delay.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, legal regulations, and health & safety standards on all sites.
• Develop and manage the project commissioning schedules in alignment with the overall project timeline.

What makes you a great candidate?

• A completed degree with a focus on electrical engineering (experience in service, customer support, or maintenance is a plus), or a comparable qualification with many years of experience in the energy supply or renewable energy sector.
• Strong technical affinity and the ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics and products.
• A confident, solution-oriented and customer-focused mindset.
• Strong analytical thinking, team spirit, and a proactive working style.
• Willingness to travel within Germany and occasionally within the EMEA region.
• Excellent skills in Microsoft Office 365 and MS Project.
• Fluent German and English skills, both written and spoken, suitable for professional use and negotiations.
• Strong team and communication skills, flexibility, resilience, and a willingness to learn.
• A valid Class B driving license.
