Project Development Manager BESS (m/w/d) in Hamburg

Our client is a well-established investment company and independent power producer (IPP), dedicated to renewable energy infrastructure investments. With a focus on developing and constructing complex projects, they are actively shaping the future of the renewable energy sector in Europe and beyond.

As Project Development Manager – BESS (m/w/d), you will play a pivotal role in driving the expansion of our client's Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) portfolio in Germany. Reporting directly to the Country Manager, you will take ownership of originating new greenfield projects, securing land, managing grid connection and permitting processes, and ensuring a robust pipeline of BESS projects.

What You'll Be Doing 

You will act as the lead point of contact for all aspects of project development from an IPP perspective, driving projects from inception through to O&M phase:

• Identify, evaluate, and secure suitable sites for BESS projects across Germany
• Lead negotiations for land lease or purchase agreements
• Manage grid connection applications and processes in close collaboration with grid operators
• Develop and maintain a strong network of landowners, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders
• Prepare and oversee permitting and consenting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
• Coordinate with internal and external experts (engineering, legal, environmental) to drive projects forward
• Maintain up-to-date market intelligence and proactively identify new development opportunities
• Support the financial modelling and business case preparation for new projects
• Represent the company at public hearings, stakeholder meetings, and industry events as needed 

What You Bring

We're looking for someone who combines project know-how with commercial intuition and a genuine drive for the energy transition:

• Background in renewable energy, environmental science, agriculture, urban planning or similar
• Several years of experience in project development or land acquisition in Germany
• Solid understanding of permitting and planning processes
• Proven track record in greenfield development within the renewable energy sector, ideally with direct BESS experience.
• Strong knowledge of site origination, land acquisition, and grid connection processes in Germany
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills and independent work style
• Proactive, self-driven personality with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently
• Business-fluent German and English; Spanish is a plus
• Confident using Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools
