The institute for sustainable systems engineering (INATECH) as part of the faculty of engineering is offering a new position for research on the deposition and utilisation of perovskite thin films for optoelectronic devices.Potential candidates should hold a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, Material Science, Electric Engineering (or related fields).
Your task
You will fabricate and study metal halide perovskite thin films for use in optoelectronic devices.
This will involve the deposition, characterisation, and utilisation of thin films of perovskites as well as contact materials, and passivation materials. The exact research focus will depend on the profile of the successful candidate. We have a wide range of methods available which so far have mostly been utilised for research focusing on solar cells and could also be applied to light emitting devices (LEDs), transistors, detectors, and other electronic and optoelectronic devices.
Research includes the vacuum deposition of perovskite absorbers, the characterisation of thin films and devices, and the development of new characterisation methods. The overarching goal is to gain an understanding of the processes happening during film-deposition and their impact on the final device performance and stability. Your work will comprise layer deposition, characterization of materials and complete devices and theoretical description of film formation processes, as well as supervision of PhD and Master students in their daily work.
Your profile
Completed or nearly completed PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields
Experience in perovskite semiconductor research
Excellent experimental skills
Strong communication skills
Ability to work in diverse teams
Proven track record of scientific publication and conference presentations
Experience with the study and optimisation of optoelectronic devices is desired
Good English skills are required
What we offer
The successful candidate will join the research group under the leadership of Dr. Juliane Borchert. This dynamic and diverse team works on a variety of vacuum based deposition techniques for perovskites including co-evaporation, sequential evaporation, and hybrid routes. In collaboration with Fraunhofer ISE we have demonstrated high efficiencies for perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells and gained deep insight into the deposition processes and film properties underpinning that performance.
The group is part of the Faculty of Engineering and in close cooperation with the Faculties of Chemistry and Physics of University Freiburg and thus embedded in an excellent scientific and technological environment for interdisciplinary research. Close collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) which is just 200 m away from the university labs ensures direct access to world-class facilities and fast-track to industrial application.
The position is limited to two years. The salary will be determined in accordance with TV-L E13 .
