About the team:
The Identity team sits at the centre of SumUp's ecosystem, connecting every product and merchant experience. As part of the Platform Tribe, the team plays a key role in ensuring that millions of customers can securely access and trust SumUp. Its mission spans backend systems, infrastructure, and customer-facing journeys, delivering reliable authentication and access flows that protect users at significant scale, including millions of MFA interactions each month.
Over the past years, the team has expanded from building core identity capabilities to enabling more advanced and merchant-focused experiences. Today, Identity is entering a new phase that includes creating richer organisational structures, improving integration capabilities, and strengthening security in line with growing regulatory and technological needs.
The team owns crucial platform components such as authentication, access management, profiles, permissions, and feature settings. Joining Identity means contributing to systems that power the entire SumUp ecosystem and shape how merchants interact with our platform.
What you'll do:
- Define and refine the roadmap for authentication, authorization, and identity services by using data, feedback, and aligning with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with engineering, security, and compliance teams to design, iterate and deliver features across SSO, MFA, roles & permissions, and new organisational models.
- Craft clear problem statements that translate technical platform work into meaningful merchant and product outcomes.
- Track product health through key metrics like login success and MFA usage, and drive initiatives that improve reliability, performance, and resilience.
- Engage with internal product teams and external partners to ensure the smooth enablement and adoption of SumUp's identity APIs across the ecosystem.
- Coordinate efforts that improve security, streamline critical flows, and manage data or access transitions in a safe and scalable way
You'll be great for this role if you have:
- Demonstrated success in leading product delivery within a complex domain with multiple systems, specifically managing Platform products.
- Possess the technical fluency required to be a strong partner to engineering teams—comfortable reading API specifications, understanding system architecture, and actively contributing to solution design.
- Strong experience in defining, interpreting, and leveraging key technical metrics (e.g., latency, error rates, authentication success). You use monitoring tools, analytics, and experimentation to prioritise and validate product improvements.
- Exceptional abilities to guide cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders across Product, Platform, Security, and Compliance, effectively securing buy-in and managing trade-offs.
- The ability to effectively handle multiple competing priorities with minimal direction, consistently advancing long-term strategic goals.
- An understanding of core authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and MFA mechanisms.
