**Scientific Assistant for Speech Communication and Speech Processing (M/F/d)**

to be filled **as soon as possible**. The position offers the opportunity to prepare for a doctorate under the primary supervision of Prof. Dr.Ing. Gerald Enzner.

The new group for speech technology and hearing aids offers excellent research and teaching for improved speech performance under adverse acoustic conditions. The system configurations include hands-free devices, binaural processing and playback systems, and speech acquisition through acoustic sensor networks. In all cases, the systems require speech communication, e.g. via wired or wireless networks. Speech processing includes reduction of acoustic noise, feedback and reverberation. Applications range from mobile devices to teleconferencing systems and hearing aids. Your task initially relates to investigations and optimisations for low-latency speech communication in acoustic sensor networks. To do this, we consider simultaneous transmission and reception in the same time and frequency band and have to combat the associated self-interference. The developments made here then support consensus among multiple in-room clients, as occurs in hybrid videoconferences with local group and individual remote participants. This configuration currently presents significant technical difficulties and therefore challenges research, but hybrid conferencing holds great potential for future flexible office work organisation. In addition to voice communication, some contributions on acoustic signal enhancement via the sensor network are expected.

The research will rely on methods of digital signal processing and machine learning to solve the respective optimisation problems. Specifically, you will work on the theoretical derivation of optimal filters, on the implementation with modern software tools as well as on the experimental evaluation and scientific documentation in high-ranking conferences and journals. The latter is also the basis for the scientific doctorate in the PhD programme at the University Oldenburg.
