Legal Counsel

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) offers the position of a full-time Legal Counsel (World Para Sports) (f/m/x) in an international and multicultural team at the IPC Headquarters in Bonn, Germany, starting as soon as possible.

The IPC, a purpose-driven non-profit association, is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. We supervise the organisation of the Paralympic Games and Paralympic Winter Games and serve as the International Federation for five Para sports. We enjoy a positive working relationship with the IPC Governing Board, members of which are democratically elected every four years by the IPC General Assembly. Since 1989, we have been creating change through sport with the Paralympic Games and Paralympic athletes at our core.

**ROLE**

The Legal Counsel (World Para Sports) reports to the Legal Counsel (Sport and Regulation) and will be primarily responsible for the following:

- To act as legal counsel for the IPC, with a particular focus on the Para sports for which the IPC is the International Federation.
- To provide legal support and strategic advice, including drafting and advising on rules and regulations, agreements for athletes and officials, hosting agreements for competitions, sponsorship and other contractual agreements.
- To support the Legal Counsel (Sport and Regulation) in representing the IPC in anti-doping, classification and other disciplinary/regulatory matters, including representing the IPC at hearings when required.
- To provide general legal support by researching/answering discrete legal questions that arise in the normal course of business, including on contractual, governance, membership and data protection matters.

**CORE REQUIREMENTS**
- Relevant legal qualifications (including a current practicing certificate).
- A minimum of two years post-qualification experience in a private-practice law firm or equivalent.
- Excellent academic achievement and understanding of the law, including a strong grounding in and knowledge of contract law.
- Meaningful regulatory and/or commercial experience.
- Strong drafting skills and first-rate attention to detail.
- Sound judgment and diplomacy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in English.
- Good interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on integrity and professionalism.
- An ability to work in sometimes pressured conditions, and to prioritise tasks appropriately and adapt to situational demands.
- A team-player outlook with the ability to work independently but within a structured legal team with appropriate support.
- An interest in professional development and a willingness to learn.

**DESIRED REQUIREMENTS**

The following experience would be an asset:

- Relevant experience in the sports sector (especially Para sport).
- Working knowledge of EU data protection laws.
- Fluency in additional languages.
