Modern, Connected, and Tradition-Conscious: Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) is the largest

university in the state of Saxony-Anhalt. With a history spanning over 500 years, the university currently
enrolls approximately 20,000 students. MLU's research focuses include material sciences, life sciences, En
- lightenment studies, and social and cultural research. Additionally, the university is home to a wide array of

small academic fields, some of which are unique in their discipline. Nationally and internationally, MLU is

At the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Faculty of Philosophy I, Institute of Oriental Studies, De
- partment of Jewish Studies, the following position is to be filled starting March 1, 2025, for a fixed term of

up to three years:
Research Associate (M/F/d)

Full-Time

The salary is based on personal qualifications and assigned responsibilities and may go up to salary group

13 TV-L.
- Responsibilities:

- Teaching in BA and MA programs in accordance with LVVO LSA (4 teaching hours per week), focusing on

Yiddish language and the Jewish cultural history of Eastern Europe
- Independent research on Eastern European Jewry, with a focus on its relationship with the Arab world (habi
- litation).
- Participation in collaborative projects and research initiatives of the Department of Jewish Studies in the

field of Arab-Jewish history
- Requirements:

- An outstanding MA degree in Jewish Studies or a related field.
- A PhD in Jewish Studies, Yiddish Studies, or a closely related area is desirable.
- Extensive teaching experience in Yiddish language instruction, including language acquisition abroad.
- Proficiency in Ivrith desireable, excellent command of the English language.
- German language skills at C1 level.
- Experience in university self-administration.
- Strong intercultural, organizational, and teamwork skills
