Job summary

Amazon is seeking a German speaking Data Linguist to join our Alexa data team. This role focuses on speech and language data, primarily in the areas of grammar writing, text annotation, and general language expansion deliverables.

The Data Linguist must be capable of:

- Building a thorough understanding of labeling conventions and provide support to global sites
- Localizing established guidelines from English into German
- Improving deployed grammars by expanding coverage, accuracy, and eliminating bugs
- Delivering high quality data output under aggressive deadlines
- Working autonomously with minimum direction
- Handling unique data analysis requests from a range of data customers
- Contributing to process improvements to reduce handling time and improve data output
- Diving deep into issues and implement solutions independently
- Providing quality expertise to other team members and coaching improvements

In addition, the German Data Linguist will need to quickly understand changes in response to customers’ requests and change workflows accordingly. The German Data Linguist must have a passion for data, efficiency, and accuracy as well as:

- Show proactive efforts in addressing issues and problems
- Excellent communication, strong organizational skills and very detail oriented
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
- Willingness to support several projects at one time, and to accept re-prioritization as necessary
- Ability to keep up with changing project conventions and priorities

- BA/BS or Master's degree in Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, or equivalent practical experience in data markup
- Experience working with grammars and other forms of speech or NLP technology
- Experience with command line tools
- Practical knowledge of data processing needs and trade-offs
