Fuel Technician Lead

Purpose and Scope:
Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts pumps, control valves and meters, strainers and filters, water separators, and pipelines of liquid fuel systems for airfields to also include maintaining bulk storage installations and conventional/unconventional refueling systems which are used in fuel storage distribution systems.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Applies knowledge of the design, system function, and interrelation of units comprising the system; physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels, chemicals, and alcohol; pipefitting skills, mechanical skills.- Makes periodic inspections of units to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges such as fuel hydrants, tank pits, distribution lines, storage tanks, turbines, pumps, and control rooms.- Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment.- Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment.- Inspects fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities. Conducts preventive maintenance inspections to detect explosions, fire, and toxic hazards.- Checks interior and exterior of storage tanks for corrosion, leakage, sludge, and for correction of operation of roof sumps, float gauges, etc.- Repairs, replaces, and adjusts malfunctioning equipment to restore operating condition specified in regulations and repair manuals.- Disassembles, adjusts, aligns, and calibrates gauges and meters.- Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Primary functions require the physical ability and mobility to repeatedly work overhead, kneel, crawl, push, pull and climb equipment as required by task. Ability to frequently lift 50 to 75 pounds. Exposed to various weather conditions (hot, rain, snow) and ability to stand for long periods of time. Regularly exposed to hazards such as noise, fumes, moving equipment, liquids and lubricants. Requires constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, and must be able to work under deadlines. Constant attention to detail in high traffic areas or working in tight, close spaces. Must be able to read/write/speak English.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent- Four (4) to Six (6) years of experience in related field- Completed Fuels Apprentice Course (J3ABR2F031 00AB), military service or commercial equivalent- Completed FORCE Course (J3AZR2F051 05AB) or 10 years’ experience- Government will schedule attendance at FORCE Course within 12 months of employment, if necessary.-
- Certification: National Petroleum Management Association Certified Petroleum Journeyman (CPJ) or equivalent certification is acceptable in place of fuels apprentice training.- Forklift experience may be required- Ability to read, speak and write English- Must possess basic mathematical skills.-
