Fuels Technician

Job Summary:
**Purpose and Scope**:
Efficiently fuel assigned equipment. Perform the work required in a timgely manner and maintain adequate production to meet service schedules.

**Essential Responsibilities**:

- Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts pumps, control valves, tanks, meters, strainers, filters, water separators, pipelines, and all other elements of liquid fuel systems.
- Makes periodic inspections of fuel facilities, in compliance with applicable regulations, to detect and correct leakage, corrosion, faulty fittings, and malfunction of mechanical units, meters, and gauges, such as fuel hydrants, tank pits, distribution lines, storage tanks, turbines, pumps, and control rooms. Each month, as scheduled, visually measures product levels in each tank for reconciliation with fuel management computer system.
- Inspects electrical wiring, switches, and controls for safe operating condition, grounding, and adjustment. Repairs, replaces, and adjusts malfunctioning equipment to restore operating condition specified in regulations and repair manuals.
- Disassembles, adjusts, aligns, and calibrates gauges and meters.
- Cleans storage tanks, and removes and installs old/new equipment, such as meter and filter installations, pipe systems, pit covers, and vents, to modify existing installations.
- Engages contractors, as necessary, to perform work on the fuel system, or any portion thereof, or to provide parts for maintenance or repairs.
- Maintains and repairs fuel pumps and tanks at fueling facilities.
- Picks up and delivers parts as needed.
- Remains on-call at all times for any urgent matter relating to fuel and fuel provision.
- Performs other work as required.

Minimum Requirements:
**Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required**:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) to five (5) years of job-related experience
- Completed Fuels Apprentice Course (J3ABR2F031 00AB), military service or commercial equivalent.
- Completed FORCE Course (J3AZR2F051 05AB) or 10 years’ experience.
- Government will schedule attendance at FORCE Course within 12 months of employment, if necessary.
- Certification: National Petroleum Management Association Certified Petroleum Journeyman (CPJ) or equivalent certification is acceptable in place of fuels apprentice training.
- Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions
- Must have experience in the installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, and/or repair of fuel delivery systems
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment, including fuel trucks, forklifts, fuel pumps, hand tools, etc.
- Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles.
- Ability to read, speak and write English
- Must possess basic mathematical skills.
