Head of Engineering

**THE ROLE & THE TEAM**:
As Head of Engineering in the Sustainability and D&I programme team, you will be joining a greenfield mission responsible for Zalando's developing competence in Sustainable and inclusive fashion. You will be at the forefront of how we define, own and build the experience that fulfils Zalando's customer promises on Sustainability and D&I. Ultimately, you will enable customers to fully express themselves by their fashion choices, live their social and environmental values by enhancing their fashion experience and enriching their consumer choices - in turn, positioning the Zalando platform as the starting point for sustainable and inclusive fashion.

- Help manage, inspire and grow a customer-focused team of engineers while ensuring smooth delivery via agile coaching and facilitating continuous improvement.
- Mentoring and growing Engineering Managers that will report to you.
- Manage a plethora of significant and sometimes competing internal stakeholders and dependencies and work closely with the product counterparts on solution planning, design and implementation (internal and external)
- Together with the the team take architectural decisions, contribute to the priorities, spearhead the documentation and learnings from incidents
- Ensure system-reliability engineering and technical compliance

**WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF**:

- A strong and self-driven Leader who has a very good understanding of technical landscapes and has experience leading leaders.
- You are comfortable working in a greenfield product team, helping distil customer problems into meaningful actions - be that contributing to other teams codebase and features, or working through uncertainty into delivering customer impact.
- Past experience as a Software Engineer (Backend / Full stack technologies)
- Past experience with Java or Javascript, API design, Event-Driven Architecture. Experience with multiple other development languages is nice to have.
- Past experience with databases (SQL, In-Memory or NoSQL) and Microservices implemented in the Cloud (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure)
