Civil Engineering Underwriter for Corporate Projects

The Corporate Department of Munich Re F&C provides bespoke insurance solutions to the global civil engineering and selected industrial sectors. Our department supports brokers, owner/operators and construction companies worldwide and is responsible for project (CAR/EAR) as well as operational (CECR/IDI) business.

To complement our dynamic team, we are looking for a dedicated engineering underwriter with a background in civil or industrial engineering. Your field of activities will be varied: the role encompasses not only underwriting, but also all client management and business development activities.

YOUR JOB

  • Acquire, assess and profitably write corporate civil engineering business with a focus on project works
  • Complete risk assessment, pricing, wording analysis and accumulation management
  • Maintain and intensify customer relationships, develop new engineering business with global insureds and brokers all over the world
  • Negotiate with insureds and brokers for successful outcomes in line with our underwriting strategy
  • Contribute to the development of the principles of corporate underwriting
  • Perform risk inspections and evaluations on site, and prepare loss prevention recommendations
  • Provide assistance to claims handling for major claims
  • Keep up-to-date with industry developments and trends
  • Prepare and conduct presentations and seminars for colleagues and clients

YOUR PROFILE

  • University degree in engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, industrial) or related discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years' industry experience, international experience and/or on major projects of advantage
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices, affiliation with professional engineering associations of advantage
  • Underwriting experience or knowledge of insurance in the fields of CAR, EAR, CECR and IDI.
  • Confident and affable manner, negotiating skills and strong customer focus
  • Business-level English required, other language skills (German, French, Spanish) of advantage
  • Ability to work independently and manage as well as prioritise multiple tasks concurrently
  • Strong understanding of numbers and analytical skills
  • Collaborative and effective work approach in an international group dynamic
  • Willingness to travel
