Research Scientist in Biophysics

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Assistant to join our team at the Third Institute of Physics at the University of Göttingen. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree while working on a cutting-edge research project in the field of biophysics.
Research FocusOur research group focuses on understanding the complex interactions between biochemical signaling, mechanical forces, and viscoelastic properties in cells and tissues. We use a combination of advanced light microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and colloidal probe microscopy to investigate the role of the plasma membrane reservoir and membrane/actin cortex attachment in epithelial cells and cardiomyocytes.
Responsibilities- Design and implement new measurement methods to quantify forces and tension in 3D tissue, membranes, and filaments.
- Develop and integrate new microscopy and analysis methods with quantitative measurements of viscoelastic properties in cells and tissue.
- Conduct experiments and data analysis to investigate the role of the plasma membrane reservoir and membrane/actin cortex attachment in epithelial cells and cardiomyocytes.
- Collaborate with the research group to develop and implement new research projects.
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Physics, Biology, or Chemistry, with experience working on the biophysics of cell mechanics using biological model systems. Proficiency in cellular biophysics, advanced light microscopy, and atomic force microscopy/colloidal probe microscopy is highly advantageous. The applicant should be curious, highly motivated, self-organized, and show a keen interest to work in an interdisciplinary group to perform leading-edge research.
