Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer to join our team at Thorlabs. As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining our optical equipment, including lasers and microscopes, at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation and Maintenance: Install and maintain our optical equipment, including lasers and microscopes, at customer sites.
- Warranty Service: Perform warranty-related service at customer sites, ensuring timely and efficient resolution of issues.
- Service Reporting: Improve internal and external service reporting, providing accurate and detailed information to customers and stakeholders.
- Preventive Maintenance: Execute a preventive maintenance program for existing customers, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
- Service Contracts: Promote service contracts to customers, highlighting the benefits of regular maintenance and support.
- Documentation: Document field service activities, including installation, maintenance, and repair work.
- Customer Response: Improve customer response time, ensuring prompt and effective resolution of issues.
- Tradeshows: Assist with system installation and evaluation for tradeshows, showcasing our products and expertise.
Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience aligning, maintaining, and servicing optical equipment, including lasers and microscopes.
- Field Service Experience: Prior field service and customer relationship experience in the life science/photonics industry.
- Education: Degree in Engineering/Photonics-related Technology, EE, Biomedical Science, Physics, or equivalent.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers and stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong problem-solving/analysis skills related to field service, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
- Travel: Must be willing to travel 75% of the time, with occasional overnight stays.
