Director of Research for Particle Physics

The Director of Research for Particle Physics will lead the particle physics division and play a key role in shaping the future of particle physics at DESY. This includes fostering collaboration with other research areas and representing the field in national and international networks.
Key Responsibilities:- Head the particle physics division and contribute to the development of the DESY laboratory
- Shape the future of particle physics at DESY, including cooperation with other research areas
- Represent the field of particle physics in national and international networks
- Coordinate DESY's contribution to national and international projects in particle physics
- Closely cooperate with committees of the research centre and funding bodies
- Take responsibility for central infrastructure service groups providing services for the entire campus
- Outstanding scientific record and international stature in particle physics
- Proven scientific leadership and excellent management skills
- Knowledge of the international research landscape and opportunities
- Excellent communication, networking, and partnership building skills
The appointment is for a period of five years, with the possibility of reappointment. The position is compensated at a competitive level in accordance with the W3 salary system in Germany, which includes the option of performance-related payments. A joint professorship with a university would be pursued if desired. Knowledge of or commitment to learn the German language is desirable.
