Job Summary

As a Senior Data Center Technician at Microsoft, you will play a critical role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for our online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.

Our infrastructure is comprised of over 200 data centers in 32 countries, serving more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses worldwide. We are committed to environmental sustainability and optimization in our data center design and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Decommission hardware for complex changes and systems, following standard procedures.
  • Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and/or replacement work to technicians, providing expert guidance and ensuring quality execution.
  • Assist and provide guidance to technicians on challenging or complex tasks and escalate issues as needed.
  • Verify security compliance for decommissions and process data-bearing devices for destruction.
  • Maintain awareness of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through dashboards and/or monthly performance discussions.
  • Train and mentor technicians through on-the-job training and direct guidance on specific tasks.
  • Embody Microsoft's values of respect, integrity, and accountability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • Multipule years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in computer science or other field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications: ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Vendor-Specific Network Certifications.
