About the Job

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our team at Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as a Cyber Resilience Expert for Virtual Power Plants. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a challenging thesis project focused on designing, implementing, and evaluating a cyber resilience self-assessment framework tailored to the specificities and requirements of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct a comprehensive literature review to identify existing definitions and metrics of cyber resilience, as well as examine existing approaches to measuring cyber resilience.
  • Develop a weighted cyber resilience model based on the findings from the literature review, capturing core properties necessary for maintaining the functionality of a VPP.
  • Design and implement a web-based tool for self-assessment of cyber resilience of VPP, taking into account technical details such as interfaces to various VPP components, protocols for data transmission and analysis, and synergies and conflicts with security- and privacy-by design mechanisms.
  • Evaluate the usefulness, effectiveness, and usability of the developed tool and collect feedback from end-users, analyzing the results and deriving well-founded recommendations for further development and optimization of the tool.
Requirements
  • Studying Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable subject.
  • Interest in current developments in the field of cyber resilience.
  • Knowledge in the fields of energy systems and software development is advantageous.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research: Cyber security engineering; Human factors in security and privacy; Usable security and privacy.
  • A high degree of initiative and team spirit.
  • Good language skills in German or English.
