SLM Process Development Engineer

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Nikon SLM Solutions is seeking a highly skilled student to collaborate on R&D projects scalable within a master thesis. The ideal candidate will be in the end phase of their master studies and possess a strong background in engineering or physics with a focus on LPBF.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigate the SLM process to develop specific challenging geometries and materials
  • Characterize materials using Computed Tomography (CT) and correlate defects with their root causes
  • Automate vision-based detection and analysis of CT images through image processing tools
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment to work on challenging projects in the field of SLM process and material parameter development
  • Conduct additional material characterization, such as mechanical properties, density analysis, microstructural investigations, SEM, EBSD chemical analysis, fracture surface analysis, and roughness investigations
  • Prepare detailed reports of experiments for internal use and write a full research report in the master thesis about an exciting project

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor Degree or Equivalent Certification in Engineering Field (e.g. Mechanical, Aerospace) or Physics with focus on LPBF
  • Prior experience with CAM (i.e. Magics, Build Processor, Netfabb, NX) is beneficial
  • General scientific research knowledge, programming, and analytical skills
  • Understanding of laser and powder bed interaction with regards to process stability and capabilities
  • Basic material characterization skills
