POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Nikon SLM Solutions has a wide range of exciting R&D projects that are scalable within a student master thesis. We are looking for a self-motivated, highly skilled student who is in the end phase of their master studies. Nikon SLM Solutions will provide comprehensive on-the-job training.

  • Investigate the SLM process to figure out how to build specific challenging geometries and materials
  • Material characterization using Computed Tomography (CT) and correlation of defects with their root causes
  • Automation of vision-based detection and analysis of CT images through image processing tools
  • Collaborate with technicians, engineers, and scientists in an international environment to work on challenging projects in the field of SLM process and material parameter development
  • Additional material characterization, e.g., mechanical properties, density analysis, microstructural investigations, SEM, EBSD chemical analysis, fracture surface analysis, roughness investigations
  • Prepare detailed reports of experiments for internal use and write a full research report in a master thesis about an exciting project. Depending on the research topic, there might be the opportunity to write an external white paper.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Certification in an Engineering Field (e.g., Mechanical, Aerospace) or Physics with a focus on LPBF
  • Prior experience with CAM (i.e., Magics, Build Processor, Netfabb, NX) is beneficial
  • General scientific research knowledge, programming, and analytical skills
  • Understanding of laser and powder bed interaction with regards to process stability and capabilities
  • Basic material characterization skills
