The IFF Pharma Solutions R&D team is seeking a highly skilled

Research Scientist (PhD) specializing in (Bio)Polymer Chemistry

to contribute to our innovative projects at the IFF R&D Innovation Center.

Our Pharma Solutions division is renowned for producing high-quality cellulose derivatives, alginates, and other polymers utilized in various sectors including Pharmaceuticals, Food, Industrial Specialties, and Personal Care. This division has demonstrated remarkable growth and profitability in recent years. The mission of our R&D Polymer Synthesis & Modification team is to drive growth in the Pharma sector by creating and launching new products that address unmet market demands through a deep understanding of structure-property relationships.

As a Research Scientist, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the structure-property dynamics of (bio)polymers for pharmaceutical applications. You will collaborate closely with experts from research, analytical, application development, and market-facing teams within a diverse and international team setting. A PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology is required, along with a minimum of three years of experience in polysaccharide research and a solid foundation in analytical chemistry. Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish connections between end-use performance requirements and polymer structures.
  • Document research findings, technical insights, and scientific knowledge through reports, publications, and Invention Disclosures while managing research projects.
  • Collaborate with Marketing teams to define, develop, and bring new products to market.
  • Engage with the Marketing team to gain insights into market needs and performance expectations.
  • Work alongside central research groups to establish material characterization methods and identify critical molecular parameters influencing end-use performance.

Qualifications and Skills

  • PhD in Organic or Analytical Chemistry or a related field.
  • Proven experience in polysaccharide research.
  • Familiarity with analytical characterization techniques.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
