Postdoctoral Researcher in Artificial Intelligence and Software Development for Behavioural Quantification

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with our Research Group "Statistical Genetics" led by Bertram Müller-Myhsok and the Research Group "Stress Resilience" led by Dr. Mathias Schmidt.
About the PositionThe position is focused on developing and maintaining cutting-edge artificial intelligence and software tools for behavioural quantification. The successful applicant will take the lead in maintaining and developing tasks of DeepOF, a Python package for post-hoc analysis of pose estimation data for rodents. The project will also involve extending and generalising the software to new animals, adding multimodal integration models, and collaborating with international research groups.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain DeepOF, a Python package for post-hoc analysis of pose estimation data for rodents
- Extend and generalise the software to new animals
- Add multimodal integration models
- Collaborate with international research groups
- PhD in biology, computer science, or a related field
- Experience with functional and object-oriented programming in Python
- Experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow / PyTorch)
- Experience with time series modelling / processing
- Strong interest in understanding the biological mechanisms underlying stress-related disorders
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent skills in spoken and written English
- A multi-disciplinary environment that fosters close collaborations between basic scientists and clinicians
- State-of-the-art facilities and a collaborative environment across statistics/computer science and behavioural science experts
- Access to proper hardware to develop and train state-of-the-art models
- Travel budget to visit national and international conferences or workshops
- Flexible work hours and the opportunity for occasional home office
- Full-time position (100%) for 24 months with a possibility for prolongation
