Doctoral Scholarship in Metabolic Interaction Network Research
The Faculty of Biology and Chemistry at Justus-Liebig-Universität Giessen is seeking a highly motivated and qualified researcher to fill a doctoral scholarship position in the field of systems biology.
Research Project:
The successful candidate will work on a project focused on the metabolic interaction network of the human host-microbiota for context-specific disease. This interdisciplinary project aims to advance our understanding of the complex relationships between the human host and its microbiota.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in systems biology, bioinformatics, and computational biology to investigate the metabolic interaction network of the human host-microbiota.
- Develop and apply computational tools and programming languages (Python, MATLAB) to analyze and model the metabolic interaction network.
- Collaborate with a team of researchers from various disciplines to advance the project's goals.
- Present research findings at international conferences and publish papers in reputable scientific journals.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Biological Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in computational tools and programming languages (Python, MATLAB) and familiarity with COBRAPy and GEM software.
- Experience in machine learning, dynamical modeling, big data analysis, microbial genomics, genome-scale modeling, and metabolic network analysis.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- High motivation and willingness to learn new technologies and strengthen your own profile.

- A doctoral scholarship with a monthly stipend of €1,200 plus a monthly lump sum of €150 for material and travel expenses.
