Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team at Universität Hamburg. The successful candidate will be part of the Theoretical Oceanography working group and the Research Training Group ENERGY.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research in ocean surface layer dynamics, focusing on submesoscales and energy transfer mechanisms.
- Develop and apply high-resolution numerical modeling approaches to evaluate model results.
- Collaborate with the research team to advance our understanding of ocean surface layer processes.
- Pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
- Participate in the Research Training Group ENERGY and attend dedicated training courses, seminars, and mentoring sessions.
Requirements
- University degree in a relevant field, such as oceanic or atmospheric sciences, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field.
- Experience with Linux/Unix, script-based languages (e.g., Matlab, Python), and ocean modeling.
- Strong background in geophysical fluid mechanics is an advantage.
- Excellent English skills and ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team.
- Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and a genuine interest in independent research in oceanography and numerical modeling.
