Job Summary:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as the Dean of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business. This is a leadership position that requires a strong academic background, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to student success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and supervision for faculty and staff in the areas of teaching, curriculum revision and development, technology, and assessment.
- Proactively pursue strategies that will provide students with clear pathways to their academic goals.
- Promote accountability and innovation, and contribute to the planning, execution, and measurement of student outcomes.
- Manage the administrative affairs of the Academic Division, including budgeting, personnel management, and facilities management.
- Work effectively with faculty and staff to promote diversity and a culture of respect.
- Develop and implement a vision for the Division based on best practices and the use of data.
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in an academic discipline or in Higher Education Administration.
- Full-time or significant adjunct higher education teaching experience.
- Experience in planning, coordination, and ongoing improvement of curriculum and instruction.
- Experience in outcomes assessment.
- Understanding of and a commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college.
- Commitment to student success.
- Participatory leadership style, demonstrated creativity and flexibility in problem solving.
- Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence.
- Sensitivity to the educational and personal goals of a diverse student population.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal, administrative, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in division (Humanities, Social Sciences or Business).
- Earned Doctorate.
- Two to four years of progressive administrative/leadership experience in higher education.
