Our Business Area Markets plays a crucial role in maximizing the value of our overall portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Vattenfall's sales and generation volumes. We serve as Vattenfall's single access to energy commodity markets and trade electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Junior Prompt Gas Trader to join our Gas Markets Trading team in Hamburg. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for engaging in active risk-taking within short-term gas markets to maximize value through the use of standard and structured products.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and executing trading strategies from day-ahead to month-ahead
- Monitoring and analyzing fundamental trading trends in the European gas markets
- Collaborating with the analytics team to define requirements for market analysis and fostering strong, trust-based cooperation
- Contributing to new business developments and assisting internal customers in developing hedging strategies for non-standard risks/products
- Providing market access services to internal and external customers within the Prompt Tenor
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A university degree in natural sciences, engineering, economics, or a related field
- Strong analytical skills with proven experience in conducting in-depth market analysis and a solid understanding of European gas markets
- Essential programming skills in Python to support data-driven decision-making
- A solid commercial mindset with a focus on maximizing market opportunities
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English, with proficiency in German and/or other languages an advantage
