Our Business Area Markets plays a crucial role in maximizing the value of our overall portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging and sourcing for Vattenfall's sales and generation volumes. We serve as Vattenfall's single access to energy commodity markets and trade electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates.
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled US Gas & Power Analyst to join our Trading Analysis & Algorithms department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting commercially relevant fundamental and quantitative analysis to support traders and develop proprietary trading strategies for the US natural gas and power markets.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Conducting in-depth analysis of the US natural gas and power markets, including identifying key fundamental drivers and regime shifts
- Developing price views and sensitivity analyses, and providing related communication and advice to traders through various channels
- Further developing fundamental and statistical markets modelling, and interfacing with other trading analysts and supporting functions on business-driven model development and policy analysis
- Playing an active role in further developing and automating routines, procedures, and applications for analysis-related information and data
- Leading and mentoring junior analysts and working students
- Contributing to the commercial success of our Business Unit Trading
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A strong academic background with a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field, such as business, economics, engineering, mathematics, or physics
- At least 3 years' experience in US natural gas and power markets analysis in a commercial or trading environment, with a proven track record
- Experience with fundamental and quantitative models for the US natural gas and power markets, and ability to steer business-driven model development and policy analysis in the respective supporting functions
- Additional experience in LNG markets or with algorithmic trading strategies is advantageous
- Good statistical, analytical, and programming skills, ideally in Python
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken; German language skills are advantageous but not required
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate with various internal stakeholders and share your knowledge
- Result-oriented, independent working method with high reliability, self-motivation, and readiness to take on responsibility
- Proactive team player with eagerness to learn
