Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Game Engine Developer to join our team at Arkane Studios. As an Engine Programmer, you will play a critical role in defining, creating, and maintaining significant portions of our game engine.

About the Role

As a key member of our Core Technology group, you will work closely with other engineers, artists, and designers to create the best-in-class FPS engine tailored for our legendary titles. Your expertise and experience will be focused primarily on the base idTech engine, but you should be comfortable touching many areas of the code and may also work on tools, game code, and our entire technology suite.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with our Core Technology group to develop and maintain the game engine, ensuring it meets the highest standards of performance, stability, and scalability.
  • Work closely with other engineers, artists, and designers to identify and prioritize engine development needs, ensuring seamless integration with game development.
  • Design, develop, and test engine features, tools, and utilities, ensuring they meet the needs of our game development teams.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality, well-documented code, adhering to our coding standards and best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring the quality of our codebase.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, applying this knowledge to improve our engine and game development processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in game industry programming, with a strong background in C++ design and coding.
  • Experience working with multithreaded, real-time systems, and a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with cross-discipline teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent demonstrable industry experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with idTech, Vulkan, DirectX 12, and modern console development (PS4, XB1, Switch).
  • Knowledge of C++11, animation, 3D graphics, audio, AI, or gameplay programming.
  • Experience with game editors and commercial tools (Max, PhotoShop, Substance, Modo, WWise, plugins/modification).
  • Knowledge of Qt and other relevant technologies.
