Project Management Specialist in Radio Astronomy

Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Project Coordinator (m/f/x) to join our Pilot Team focused on pioneering methodologies in Radio Astronomy. This role is based in Görlitz and/or Dresden and is integral to the establishment of the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA). The position is initially limited, with potential for extension following the start-up phase.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee project management and coordination of subprojects aimed at advancing next-generation radio astronomical algorithms and data processing.
- Develop and implement project concepts while ensuring thorough reporting.
- Contribute to the evolution of data science initiatives within the DZA.
- Handle administrative duties related to the research project, including drafting project reports in both German and English, liaising with project partners, and organizing project meetings.
- Conduct independent research in key areas such as:
- Infrastructure for managing extensive radio astronomical datasets.
- FPGA-based techniques for detecting transient radio phenomena.
- Software-driven radio camera technologies for next-gen radio telescopes.
- Represent the project at local, national, and international conferences, showcasing research findings.
- Publish research outcomes in prestigious journals and collaborate with global experts.
- Provide scientific support in acquiring advanced scientific and technical equipment.

Qualifications:
- A university degree and PhD in fields such as physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, astronomy, astrophysics, or a related discipline.
- Extensive expertise in physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, astronomy, and/or astrophysics.
- Familiarity with European funding mechanisms, procurement, and contract law, alongside experience working with industrial partners.
- Proven track record in coordinating project teams and managing research initiatives.
- Strong ability to thrive under pressure, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel for professional engagements.
