Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Project Coordinator (m/f/x) to join our Pilot Team focused on innovative method developments in the field of Radio Astronomy. This role is pivotal in the establishment of the German Centre for Astrophysics (DZA) and will be based in Görlitz and/or Dresden.
Contract Details:
This position is initially limited until December 31, 2025, with the potential for extension or permanence following the initial phase. The employment terms are governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee project management and coordination of subprojects aimed at developing next-generation algorithms and data processing techniques at the DZA.
- Establish and lead a research group focused on innovative projects.
- Manage the conception and execution of subprojects, including reporting and communication with partners.
- Contribute to the advancement of data science initiatives at the DZA.
- Handle administrative tasks related to the research project, including writing project reports in both German and English.
- Organize and participate in project meetings, ensuring effective project organization and control.
- Conduct independent research in key areas such as large data set management, FPGA-based detection methods, and software development for advanced radio telescopes.
- Engage in local, national, and international conferences, presenting research findings and publishing results in esteemed journals.
Qualifications:
- A university degree and PhD in physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge in relevant disciplines including physics, mathematics, computer science, and astronomy.
- Familiarity with European funding mechanisms and contract law, along with experience in collaborating with industrial partners.
- Proven experience in coordinating project teams and managing research projects.
- Strong ability to work under pressure, with flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Willingness to travel for professional purposes.
