The Amazon EU Design and Construction division is in search of a skilled EU Fire Safety Operations Manager to facilitate the growth of the Amazon infrastructure.
The Fire Safety Operations Manager will establish and oversee a unified approach to fire safety engineering strategy across various EU nations for Amazon's REI and compliance initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have a profound understanding of professional-grade fire protection engineering services, including life safety code consulting, sprinkler system design, and performance-based fire engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
We are seeking an individual with substantial experience in warehouse or industrial operations permitting and in fire safety strategy or design.
- Assists in resolving design challenges, which may involve conducting field investigations or inspections, thorough reviews of designs completed by others, or coordinating specific design elements within a project.
- Identifies relevant codes and standards to reference when addressing inquiries.
- Conducts analyses of building codes, egress strategies, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, and basic sprinkler systems.
- Defines and drives improvements aimed at standardizing the fire safety strategy across Amazon Fulfillment Centers in the EU.
- Performs onsite evaluations of fire safety strategies in accordance with industry standards, during construction, post-construction assessments, and throughout the lifecycle of the buildings.
This role will be primarily based in Germany, with approximately 40% of the time dedicated to travel within the country or to other EMEA regions.
Core Job Responsibilities:
The Fire Safety Operations Manager will be responsible for preparing the:
- Performance-Based Design framework
- Reviewing proposed designs
- Offering strategic and tactical guidance on Fire Safety Implementation
- Evaluating sites in real-time for regulatory compliance
- Conducting Risk Assessments for Operations and critical business partners
- Analyzing post-event scenarios and documenting lessons learned
The primary focus of this role is to deliver a fire safety performance framework for the Amazon Building network. This involves extensive collaboration with Amazon stakeholders from the initial concept design phase through to delivery and the building's lifecycle.
The position allows for independent work and the provision of expert fire safety opinions in both daily operations and future concept designs across a wide geographical area.
About the Team:The Fire Safety Team is part of the Global Engineering Services (GES) division at Amazon.
This small, dynamic team alternates between Performance-Based Design and Risk Assessment, product evaluation, legislative guidance, and the development of complex equipment specifications.
As a vital part of this team, there is significant potential to enhance the safety and experience of Amazon buildings and Associates.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree
- Proven knowledge of EU building regulations and fire safety standards (NFPA / EU equivalents)
- Demonstrated expertise in fire engineering principles and practices within industrial and logistics facilities
- A history of successfully navigating complex permitting processes
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for engaging with technical and institutional stakeholders, both internal and external
- Ability to cultivate trustworthy relationships with private and public partners.
- Proficiency in English is essential, with working knowledge of another EU language preferred, particularly Italian or German.
- Experience in fire engineering within EU countries.
- Experience in fire engineering specifically in Germany or Italy.
- Familiarity with CFD modeling and its applications.
- Knowledge of sprinkler codes, design, and installation.
- On-site experience with Fire Safety Assessments.
- Willingness to travel throughout the EU up to 40% of the time.
- Strong ability to anticipate challenges, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a drive for innovation.
- Proficiency in German, French, Polish, Arabic, or Turkish is considered a preferred qualification.
