We are Vanilla Steel, a Berlin-based startup revolutionizing the multi-billion-euro metal trading industry with seamless digital solutions. Our mission is to transform buying and selling in one of the oldest industries of the modern world.

The current manual processes, operated on Excel, PDF, and Email, hinder efficiency and growth. We aim to increase liquidity, accelerate transactions, reduce scrapping rates, and enhance buying convenience for hundreds of steel and metal distributors across Europe.

Our lean team of young, international, and passionate talents has recently reached breakeven and is gearing up for the next phase of growth. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Metal Trading Operations Executive.

About the Role
  • You will work closely with our senior management and a highly motivated team to flawlessly execute negotiated and booked orders.
  • Your responsibilities will include booking orders into our ERP system, issuing order confirmation documentation, sourcing logistics quotes, handling steel & metal delivery within Europe or to export markets through our network of shipping companies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Executing negotiations and ensuring timely order confirmations.
  • Managing logistics and deliveries across Europe, including truck and rail transportation, and exports by sea.
  • Collaborating with factoring partners for deal financing when required.
  • Revenue operations, including issuing invoices, processing incoming invoices, tracking payments, and managing overdue invoices.
  • Ensuring statutory reporting compliance, including VAT declarations and Intrastat reporting.
  • Maintaining relationships with logistics partners to provide reliable truck delivery across Europe.
  • Automating existing process workflows to improve efficiency and scalability.
Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in trading operations in a B2B trading environment for physical goods, preferably commodities and metals.
  • Understanding of commodity(metal) trading processes and documents.
  • Familiarity with incoterms and risk transfer in logistics.
  • Knowledge of customs procedures, including simplified customs authorizations and documentation handling.
  • Experience with handling customer claims in a physical goods/trading environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel/Google Sheets and strong quantitative skills.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
