Global Supply Chain Specialist

We are a Berlin-based startup, Vanilla Steel, that has successfully established a leading B2B marketplace for industrial metals across Europe.
The multi-billion-euro metal trading industry is operated on Excel, PDF and Email. We aim to transform buying and selling in one of the oldest industries with seamless digital solutions. Our technologies increase liquidity, accelerate transactions, reduce scrapping rates and enhance buying convenience for hundreds of steel distributors.
Role OverviewThis role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Freight Forwarder to join our team full-time. You will work closely with Operations Managers and the sales team to enable transactions through competitive shipping rates and flawless execution of negotiated orders.
About the Job- You will research and plan the most appropriate route for shipment of steel products, ensuring cost-effectiveness and reliability.
- Obtain quotes from third-party carriers, negotiate competitive rates, and select the best options based on cost, service quality, and reliability.
- Negotiate contracts, transportation, and handling costs with carriers.
- Ensure compliance with customs and insurance requirements, packaging specifications, and regulations of overseas countries.
- Arrange insurance and resolve claims efficiently.
- Manage the end-to-end logistics process, including booking, tracking, and payment of shipments via third-party carriers.
- Foster strong relationships with freight carriers and forwarders to ensure consistent service levels and resolve operational issues.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, invoices, and other logistics-related documentation for audits and reporting.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in freight forwarding, preferably within the steel or manufacturing industry.
- Experience with truck and freight logistics, including understanding of incoterms and risk transfer.
- Familiarity with legal requirements regarding regional and export shipments and respective documentation.
- Understanding of steel product handling and transportation requirements.
- Familiarity with truck & freight rate structures and carrier selection processes.
- Experience with handling customer claims in a physical goods / trading environment.
- Proficiency in logistics management software (TMS) and ERP systems, advanced knowledge in Excel/Google Sheets.
- Strong negotiation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
