About the Role

We are a Berlin-based startup, Vanilla Steel, successfully establishing a leading B2B marketplace for industrial metals across Europe.

The multi-billion-euro metal trading industry operates mainly on Excel, PDF, and Email. We aim to transform buying and selling in the metal industry with seamless digital solutions, increasing liquidity, accelerating transactions, reducing scrapping rates, and enhancing buying convenience for hundreds of steel and metal distributors across Europe.

As a lean team of young, international, and passionate talents, we've recently reached breakeven and are gearing up for the next phase of growth. We seek a highly skilled individual to join our team as an Accounting & Payments Specialist, working closely with our senior management and a highly motivated team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate and compliant financial processes and records with the CFO and Trading Operations team.
  • Take ownership of bookkeeping and accounting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB).
  • Create and book invoices, reconcile payments, and oversee factoring payments.
  • Support trading operations in overdue receivables management.
  • Manage and organize financial data within our ERP systems and DATEV.
  • Coordinate monthly and annual closing activities.
  • Participate in projects related to working capital optimization.
  • Continuously develop and improve existing processes in financial accounting.
  • Cooperate with auditors and tax consultants.
  • Perform general financial and administrative tasks.
Requirements
  • Completion of commercial training, preferably with further training as a certified public accountant or a comparable business degree.
  • 3+ years of progressive professional experience in financial accounting – ideally in a trading organization.
  • Solid knowledge of accounting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB).
  • Confident knowledge of MS Office/ Google Sheets, DATEV, UnternehmenOnline, and common invoicing software.
  • High affinity for numbers and technology, as well as analytical thinking skills.
  • Excellent command of German (both written and spoken) and a good command of English.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Independent, structured, and careful way of working.
  • Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills.
  • Discretion and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial data.
