ResponsibilitiesPosition Overview
This role is located in Berlin. As part of the NiCKEL RISK department, the Operational Risk Officer for NiCKEL Germany will play a crucial role in overseeing operational risk management, including data protection frameworks, and will report directly to the Manager of Operational Risk Oversight.
The RISK department serves as an integrated second line of defense, ensuring the integrity of the risk management framework while collaborating with Business Units to support business development. Currently, the RISK department consists of 7 members, including a Data Protection Officer, who collectively manage operational risks and data protection matters.
The key responsibilities of the Operational Risk Officer for NiCKEL Germany include:
- Actively participating in identifying and assessing local risks associated with NiCKEL Germany's payment operations.
- Serving as the local representative for the RISK department in executive and group committees, focusing on risk and data protection.
- Ensuring the effectiveness of the local control framework to monitor and mitigate operational risks on a daily basis, while engaging in cross-functional projects with Business Units and other integrated functions such as Legal and Compliance.
- Collaborating with both the NiCKEL Data Protection Officer and the Territory Data Protection Officer to act as a local Data Protection Correspondent, ensuring compliance with applicable data protection regulations, including GDPR.
- Functioning as a subject matter expert within NiCKEL and the RISK function, particularly regarding the permanent control framework.
This position will involve regular travel to the head offices located near Paris, France.
QualificationsCandidate Profile
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in the banking or payment industry, particularly in a control function.
- Proficiency in both German and English is required; knowledge of French is advantageous.
- A collaborative team player.

- Ability to work independently.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Dependability and reliability.
- A solid understanding of the relevant regulatory framework.
