ResponsibilitiesPosition Overview
This role is situated in Berlin. As part of the NiCKEL RISK department, the Operational Risk Officer for NiCKEL Germany will play a vital role in overseeing operational risk management, including frameworks for data protection, and will report directly to the Manager of Operational Risk Oversight.
The RISK department serves as an integrated second line of defense, ensuring the integrity of the risk management framework while collaborating with Business Units to foster business development. Currently, the RISK department comprises seven members, including a Data Protection Officer, who manage operational risks and data protection issues.
The key responsibilities of the Operational Risk Officer for NiCKEL Germany include:
- Actively engaging in the identification and evaluation of local risks associated with NiCKEL Germany's payment operations.
- Serving as the local representative for the RISK department, participating in executive and group committees.
- Ensuring the effectiveness of the local control framework to monitor and mitigate operational risks on a daily basis, while also collaborating on cross-functional projects with Business Units and other integrated functions such as Legal and Compliance.
- Working alongside the NiCKEL Data Protection Officer and the Territory Data Protection Officer to act as a local Data Protection Correspondent, ensuring compliance with applicable data protection regulations, including GDPR.
- Functioning as a subject matter expert within NiCKEL and the RISK function, focusing on the permanent control framework.
This position will involve regular travel to the headquarters located near Paris, France.
QualificationsCandidate Profile
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- A minimum of three years of experience in the banking or payment sector, particularly in a control function.
- Proficiency in both German and English is essential; knowledge of French is advantageous.

- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Dependability and reliability.
- A solid understanding of the relevant regulatory framework.
