Bioinformatics Expert for Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled bioinformatics expert to join our team at BASF SE. As a senior scientist, you will be responsible for providing bioinformatics analyses and decision support to our biotechnology research and development activities.

Your tasks will include collecting, analyzing, and comparing biological data, drawing conclusions from your analyses, and communicating results, interpretations, and recommendations to non-technical audiences.

You will work closely with experimental molecular biology and sequencing labs and use your familiarity with a breadth of NGS data and bioinformatics techniques to develop innovative solutions to biotechnology problems.

Additionally, you will provide guidance to our project partners regarding experimental planning and setup, data collection, and processing.

Requirements

  • PhD in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology, or a related field like Biology, Systems Biology, or Biochemistry with experience in handling and analysis of NGS and biological data
  • Profound scripting abilities (e.g., Python, R, shell scripting) are required, experience in at least one programming language (e.g., C, C++, Java) is a plus
  • Working knowledge of UNIX-like operating systems as well as database systems and thorough knowledge of bioinformatics tools
  • Experience in handling and analyzing genomics, transcriptomics, or proteomics data
  • Preferred experience working with NGS data from both prokaryotes and eukaryotes
  • Basic experience working with workflow managers and containerization would be a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills, and the initiative to actively communicate with data producers and data users in an interdisciplinary environment
